Government of Japan Provides K1,000,000 TO KALINGALINGA CENTRE FOR THE CARE OF ORPHANS

On 30th October 2015, Mr. Kiyoshi Koinuma, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia presented on behalf of the Government of Japan, a Grant amounting to 86,696 United States Dollars, or approximately one million Kwacha to Kalingalinga Center for the Care of Orphans to facilitate the implementation of The Project for Construction of New Community School Building at Kalingalinga Center in Lusaka.

Kalingalinga Center for the Care of Orphans runs a community school to provide education for orphans and vulnerable children living in Kalingalinga compound in Lusaka. Mama Chibesa Kankasa, a founder of this organization, is one of the freedom fighters who took a prominent role for the independence of Zambia, and started this community school in 1994 by opening up the rooms of her own residence. Through her efforts, underprivileged children in the area are now able to access quality education. However, the poverty situation around the area remains daunting, and the demand for free quality education is still high.

By making use of the recipient’s experience on school management and OVC support, it is expected that more unprivileged children will get an opportunity to receive adequate education.
