Visit of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry

to Zambia Business Mission

 

The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIJ)-Zambia Business Mission co-sponsored by JETRO Johannesburg Office and the Embassy of Japan in Zambia visited Lusaka, Zambia, from 3rd to 5th March, 2015.

This Business Mission was organized as a follow-up to the “Zambia-Japan Trade and Investment Promotion Forum” which took place in January last year. In particular, it marked an important milestone through which the Japanese companies and the Government of the Republic of Zambia exchanged valuable ideas to promote the understanding by the Japanese companies of the new economic and trading policies under the new administration of the Republic of Zambia.

 

On behalf of the Japanese side, H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Koinuma, the Ambassador of Japan to Zambia, and Mr. Yoshiki Takizawa, the Chairman of CCIJ, made welcome remarks including updates on the interests of the Japanese companies. From the Government of the Republic of Zambia, presentations were made to illustrate the current status and the new initiatives of the various economic sectors. Participants also actively discussed ideas and exchanged opinions.

 

The Business Mission provided Japanese companies with significant opportunities for gaining better understainding of investment environment, such as a courtesy call to H.E. Mr. Edgar Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia, a forum with the Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) and a field tour to a factory of a successful manufacturing business in Zambia’s agricultural sector. The Japanese companies also attended a business networking reception, interacting with Zambian companies, Indian companies and the Government of Zambia.

 

　The Forum was a great success. There were 146 participants in total, comprising 14 Japanese companies (22 participants) and 70 Zambian companies (81 participants).
