Reception for the Birthday of His Majesty, the Emperor of Japan

On 26th November 2014, the Embassy of Japan hosted a Reception to celebrate the Birthday of His Majesty, the Emperor of Japan, at the Ambassador’s residence in Lusaka. Distinguished Guests included the Acting Chief Justice, Madam Chief Justice L.P. Chibesakunda and Hon. Nicholas Banda, M.P., Deputy Minister of Local Government and Housing.


H. E. Mr. Kiyoshi Koinuma, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia delivered his speech, expressing his sincere condolences on the passing of the President of the Republic of Zambia, His Excellency Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata, as well as extending his congratulations on Zambia’s Golden Jubilee Year. The Ambassador further emphasized that the Embassy of Japan not only continues to contribute to the economic and social development of Zambia, but offers scholarship programmes to study in Japan, for the younger generation who will assume responsibilities for the future of Zambia and promote academic exchange between institutions of both countries in order to enhance even further the bilateral relationship over the next 50 years. Moreover, the Guest of Honour, Hon. Nicholas Banda, M.P., Deputy Minister of Local Government and Housing, expressed gratitude for Japan's development assistance to the Republic of Zambia. He also highlighted the high level visit by Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino, further showing the confidence that both countries will strengthen the existing relationship between two countries.


At the Reception, the Embassy staff sang the national anthems of both countries along with the students from the Music Department of the Evelyn Hone College, impressing those present. The reception area was decorated with “Ikebana”, Japanese traditional flower arrangements. In addition, JICA and Japanese companies set up their exhibits, which included displays of Japanese cars, providing a platform leading to the strengthening of economic relations between the Republic of Zambia and Japan. 230 guests from the Government of Zambia, Zambian companies, universities, mass media, sports organizations, Japanese companies, ODA related organizations, diplomatic missions and international organizations interacted with each other at the Reception and exchanged opinions to strengthen the ties of friendship.
