Zambia-Japan Trade and Investment Promotion Forum
(Site Visit)
The first Zambia-Japan Trade and Investment Promotion Forum in co-sponsored by JETRO Johannesburg Office, Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and the Embassy of Japan in Zambia took place on 29th and 30th January, 2014, in Lusaka, Zambia.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Zambia-Japan diplomatic relations as well as the golden jubilee of Zambia’s independence. The Forum, which commemorated the 50th anniversary of Zambia-Japan diplomatic relations, was held with a view to promote both Japan and Zambia in their quests to seek future partnership prospects in trade and investment for the middle to long term future.
On behalf of the Japanese side, H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi Koinuma, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia and Mr. Hiroshi Okado, Vice Chairman of Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industries in South Africa presented the welcome address while Hon. Emmanuel T. Chenda, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry gave an openingspeech, on behalf of the Zambian Government.
During the Forum, presentations were made which highlighted various economic sectors from both Japan and Zambia. Participants also actively discussed ideas and exchanged opinions. Participants were later taken on site tours where they had the opportunity to see first-hand some of Zambia’s economic activities and industries.
The Forum was a great success. There were 139 participants in total, comprising 23 Japanese companies (36 participants) and 42 Zambian companies (57 participants).
