 Annual Assembly of Japan Scholars

On 23 January 2014, the Embassy of Japan hosted the Annual Assembly of Japan scholars belonging to an alumni association of former scholarship students to Japan.

In a greeting message, H. E. Mr. Kiyoshi Koinuma, the Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, after mentioning that this year marks the 50th anniversary of Japan-Zambia diplomatic relations, emphasized a significant role to be played by members of the Japan Scholars as a cornerstone of relations between the two countries. Also, as the Guest of Honour, Hon. Prof Nkandu Luo, Minister of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs expressed appreciation for Japan’s assistance including academic exchanges.

Two to three Zambian students and researchers are sent to Japanese universities every year under a scholarship programme sponsored by the Government of Japan. After completing studies in Japan, they are playing important roles in the development of Zambia in various areas.

It is hoped that the vitalization of the Japan Scholars and closer networks among the members will further broaden and strengthen the relationship between Japan and Zambia.
