Handover Ceremony of ART Centres for the HIV/AIDS Project in Kafue District by the Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan)

The handover ceremony of the Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) Centres for the HIV/AIDS Project in Kafue District took place at the Mount Makulu Clinic in Chilanga District and at the Nangongwe Clinic in Kafue District on 8th November 2013. The Government of Japan provided 867,790 USD (approximately 4.34 million ZMW) for the HIV/AIDS Project in Kafue which was implemented by the Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan)

Dignitaries present at the event included Mr. Hideki Yamaji, Charge d'Affaires ad interim of Japan to Zambia, Dr. Joseph Katema, Minister of Community Development, Mother and Child Health, and Ms. Hiromi Kawano, Country Director of AAR Japan.

The ART Centres located within the Mount Makulu and Nangongwe Clinics will provide the local community with ART treatment and counselling with due respect for visitors’ privacy. In addition, by implementing an advanced software system and equipment, the Clinics are expected to provide more effective care as a result of improved client data management. In addition to improving access to the facilities, ART Centres would allow people in the community to gain more knowledge about ART in efforts to support those who live with HIV/AIDS.

Through the scheme “Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects,” the Government of Japan provides grant assistance to Japanese NGOs which implement economic and social development projects in developing countries.
