The FAO Regional Workshop on Rice-Fish farming in East,
Central and Southern Africa
The FAO Regional Workshop on Rice-Fish farming in East, Central and Sothern Africa took place from 28th to 30th October 2013 in Lusaka, Zambia. Officials who attended the seminar included Dr. Benson Mwenya, Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Mr. George Okech, Representative of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Zambia, and Mr. Akio Egawa, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia.
In the workshop, the participants from East, Central and Southern African 8 countries learned the experience and skills of Japan and Asia in rice-fish farming. As a result of active discussion, a draft action plan for rice-fish farming development in each country was formulated and shared by participants from East, Central and Southern Africa including Zambia. It is hoped that the result of fruitful deliberations in this workshop will be practically applied to enhance food security and sustainable development in 8 participant countries including Zambia.
