2013 Japanese Ambassador’s National Judo Tournament
On 26 October, the Embassy of Japan in Zambia hosted the Japanese Ambassador’s Judo Tournament in association with the Zambia Judo Association at the Olympic Youth Development Center (OYDC).
The event brought together more than 120 Judokas from 6 clubs around the country, demonstrating their highly skilled abilities.
Acting Permanent Secretary, Mr.Boniface Nalishiwa, Director of Human Resources in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and President of Zambia Judo Federation, Mr. Alfred Foloko attended the event and addressed the participants. Also, H.E. Mr. Akio Egawa, Ambassador of Japan to Zambia delivered an address and awarded torophies to excelling clubs and judokas. The awards are significant for participants because winners are considered for selection to the national team.
Judo has gained more popularity in Zambia, and after this tournament, Judo for Peace tournament and Zambia National Judo Tournament are scheduled to be held this year. Expanding the relationship between Japan and Zambia through Judo is expected to enhance mutual understanding between Japan and Zambia. Also, Zambian judoka would bring excitement to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
