On 29th November 2012, a Reception was held to celebrate the Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan, Japan’s National Day, and to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Japan and the Republic of Zambia. Japanese Ambassador H.E. Akio Egawa made remarks on behalf of Japan. In his address he cited the strengthening  of  bilateral relations between Japan and the Republic of Zambia which was represented by the visit to Japan of H.E. Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata, President of the Republic of Zambia earlier  this year, as well as the  Fifth International Conference on African Development (TICAD V) which will be held next year in Tokyo. He further emphasised that Japan intends to continue to support economic and social development of the Republic of Zambia in the future and to strengthen the relationship between the two countries in various other sectors. The guest of honour, Deputy Minister of Finance, Honourable Miles Sampa, M.P., expressed appreciation for Japan's development assistance to the Republic of Zambia. He further showed his intention to strengthen the bilateral relationship with Japan and cooperative partnerships in international fora.

On the grounds of the Ambassador's residence, three Japanese automakers’ cars were exhibited and many participants showed interest in the exhibition. This provided a platform that leads to the strengthening of economic relations between the Republic of Zambia and Japan.

Those in attendance included people from the Government of Zambia, Zambian companies, universities, mass media, sports organisations, Japanese companies, ODA related organisations, and diplomatic and international organisations.
