THE FAO NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON RICE AND AQUACULTURE DEVELOPMENT

IN ZAMBIA

The FAO National Workshop on Rice and Aquaculture Development in Zambia took place from 18th to 22nd June 2012 in Lusaka. Officials who attended the seminar included: Mr. Adranius Spijkers, Representative of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Zambia, Mr. Yukio Suzuki, Representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan and Mr. Atsushi Kuwabara, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Japan to Zambia.


In the workshop, the participants learned the experience of Japan and Asia in rice farming and aquaculture. As a result of active discussion, a draft action plan for rice and aquaculture development in Zambia was formulated and shared by Zambian government officials, private sector stakeholders, NGO stakeholders and other participants. It is hoped that the result of fruitful deliberations in this workshop will be practically applied to enhance food security and sustainable development in Zambia.
