The Society for Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy (SPJD) presents Recycled Ladder Trucks to the Ministry of Local Government and Housing

 

On 8th July, 2011, the Charge d’affairs, a.i., of Japan to the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Atsushi KUWABARA participated in the handover ceremony of ten fire engines, including the fire truck with 35m ladder, and six ambulances provided by the Society for Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy, to the Ministry of Local Government and Housing, in Lusaka.
The purpose of the hand-over is to increase the number of emergency vehicles under the Ministry of Local Government and Housing in order to contribute to the enhancement of the Ministry’s capacity to tackle fire outbreaks which occur frequently, especially during the dry season.
The Society for Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy (The SPJD) was established in 1947 which approved of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The SPJD is a non-profit organization and one of its major activities is to donate recycled emergency vehicles from local governments in Japan to developing countries. The SPJD participates in Japan’s ODA –Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects through promising of recycled equipments such as ambulances. Japan trusts that these vehicles will be effectively utilised and well maintained so that they can serve many people for a long time to come. It also hopes that the donation will further strengthen the cordial friendship existing between Japan and Zambia.
