Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Lusaka Remanufacturing Factory of Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. Ltd.

On 1 June, the ground breaking ceremony was held for the Lusaka Remanufacturing Factory of Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. with the presence of President Banda. Also in attendance were Commerce and Industry Minister Mutati and Science, Technology and Vocational Training Minister Daka from the Zambian side and officials of Hitachi Construction Machinery and Konoike Construction Co., Ltd., which is the contractor from the Japanese side. Ambassador Egawa gave congratulatory remarks on the occasion.
The factory will be built near the Lusaka International Airport and mainly cater for copper mining operations in Zambia in the remanufacturing of parts, service and maintenance of heavy mining machinery. This will be the first full-scale direct investment into Zambia by a major Japanese company in many years and is welcomed wholeheartedly by Zambia.
