JTUC-RENGO Visits Zambia
From 3rd May to 5th May, Mr. Tomoyasu Kato, Vice President of the Japanese Trade Union Confederation (JTUC-RENGO), Mr. Hiroyuki Nagumo , General Secretary of JTUC-RENGO,Ms. Yoshiko Ichikawa, Executive Director, Department of International Affairs of the JTUC-RENGO and Ms. Fumiko Kimura, Staff of International Affairs Department of the Federation of Information and Communication Technology Service Workers of Japan (ICTJ) visited Zambia.
As part of the programme, the delegation made a courtesy call on Mr. Akio Egawa, Ambassador of Japan in Zambia, and later met Mr. Martin Clemensson, Director of the ILO Country Office for Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique office exchanged views on labour issues, trade unions current situation and challenges in mainly Zambia. In the meeting, they also shared the views on the African Productivity Workshop which was co-sponsored by ILO and JTUC-RENGO and held in Zambia in 2007. They discussed the preparing for co-hosting the next workshop and the expected outcomes.
The delegation also met Honorable Fackson Shamenda, MP, Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Labour who was the President of ITUC (International Trade Unions Confederation) from 2002 to 2006. The Zambian Congress Trade Unions’ (ZCTU) President Mr. Hakainde Hikaumba and the ZCTU Secretary General Mr. Roy Mwaba, also participated in the meeting and exchanged labour situation in Zambia.
