Hand-Over of Sports Facilities in Lusaka City for Youth Development
Constructed under Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects
On 5th August 2011, a Hand-over Ceremony of sports facilities constructed under Japanese Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Projects was held at the Lusaka head office of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) with the participation of H.E. Mr. Akio Egawa, Japanese Ambassador to Zambia, Mr. Teddy Mulonga, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports, Youth and Child Development and Mrs. Mirriam Moyo, President of NOCZ.These facilities comprise athletic trucks (400m, 100m), a football field, a tennis court and a netball court. NOCZ named them "YAMATO Field".
"YAMATO Field" is sorrounded by Chipata, Mandevu and Marapodi Compounds and many children living in the compounds can now enjoy various sports activities. Already school children around the field are having athletics training under coaches from NOCZ. It is hoped that a lot of sports talent will be born from the field to raise Zambia's sporting profile higher..
